 Wolves versus ECS 5/7

Stephen Powell got the start for this match-up in the Metro Tournament.  Caleb McElveen came in to pitch 8 strong innings in this 3 extra-innings game.  Nick Adair came in to face 2 batters in the tenth to pick up this loss of 7 to 8.

In the second inning, down by 3 runs with 2 outs, Patrick Mason hit a double to score Garrett Hachtel who got on with a walk.  This started a 2-out rally with Mason and Phillip Gibson scoring to tie up the game.

After swapping runs through 3 innings, ECS came back to tie it up again in the bottom of the seventh, that led to 3 extra innings.  The Wolves couldn’t get a runner past first in the extra innings and in the bottom of the tenth the Eagles scored to end the Wolves’ season sooner than they had planned.

Wolves versus Germantown 4/27

This certainly wasn’t how the Wolves wanted to end their regular season, but Germantown’s pitcher was hitting his marks and their batters were hitting the holes in our field.  Jay Hollenbeck went five innings to pick up this tough loss of 6 to 1.  Garrett Hachtel came in to close out the game.  Phillip Gibson was 3 for 3 with a double and Nick Adair was 2 for 3 with a double, scoring our only run off an RBI from Justin Streitenberger.

Andrew Holt came ready to play as he took the mound at USA stadium to get this win of 5-1 over Millington.  He went strong for the full seven innings, with 8 strikeouts.

The game was scoreless through five innings.  In the sixth, Julian Henson got on with a single and Garrett Hatchel knocked him in with a bomb to left field.  This set the stage for Hatchel to score off a triple by Travis Calvi.

The next inning Rocky Escajadillo led off with a single.  Justin Streitenberger and Mark Foster got on with perfectly executed bunts.  With bases loaded, Jeremy Waters hit a sacrifice fly to score Escajadillo.  A single by Julian Henson loaded the bases again and Streitenberger scored after Ephraim McCleary was walked.  Foster scored off a sacrifice fly from Garrett Hatchel.

 Wolves versus Bolton 4/16

Jay Hollenbeck had a very good day on the mound to go the full seven to get this win of 7-2.  The first Bolton batter of the game got on with a single, but Julian Henson and Phillip Gibson tagged him out attempting to steal second.  In the third inning, it took just three pitches to retire Bolton’s #1 through #3 batters.  Hollenbeck followed that up the next inning by striking out their #4 and #5 batters and getting the next batter out with one pitch.

 Wolves versus Bolton 4/15

Nick Adair went the full seven innings to get this win of 7-6 against Bolton.  He got help with some all-star defensive plays in the field.  Patrick Mason was “Pac-Man” of the infield, eating up everything that came near him and throwing out a runner at the plate.  And Garrett Hatchel had an unassisted double play at third base.  Offensively, Caleb McElveen was the only Cordova player to reach base past first, when he doubled in the first inning.  He went on to go 2 for 4 with 3 RBI’s for the day.

Wolves versus Munford 4/10

Well it wasn’t the easiest way to win a ball game, but the Wolves hung in there to leave with a win of 7-6.  After leading off four out of five innings with errors, the Wolves settled in to play two strong, error-free innings.  Nick Adair remained composed on the mound through six innings and struck out four batters.  Adam Hampton came in to close out the game and get the win.

In the seventh, with the game tied, Rocky Escajadillo got on with a walk and Justin Streitenberger moved him into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.  This set the stage for Mark Foster to send a line drive to left field to score Escajadillo.  Foster went 4 of 5 in the game, with the winning RBI.
